We are happy to announce the launch of our digital book publishing imprint – Global Wire Books – which will continue to support the organization’s mission of innovative communication for advancing social justice. Our latest book, Recharge E-waste: Ideas for Reducing Electronic Waste And Greening The Tech World, has already become a success, with nearly 4,000 downloads since its release last month.
These numbers speak volumes in many ways. For one, as traditional print media continues to march into its final resting place, digital media use is surging thanks to the popularity of tablets and e-readers. Also, there is a market demand for non-fiction e-books that present under-reported topics through an interactive, multimedia experience. With our imprint, we will publish high-quality, accessible reports, surveys, anthologies and other publications addressing how technology and innovation impacts society and human rights.
Currently, we don’t have a set schedule of when e-books will be published, but we do have a couple of topical book ideas in the pipeline that we hope to have out by the end of the year. We are still in an experimental phase, but quality over quantity is our priority. We are also open to any e-book ideas from our online audience. Eventually, we will collaborate with other writers, technologists and thought leaders in the digital activism space on projects. If you are interested in collaborating or have a possible idea you think we should explore in an e-book, email our web editor Philip Lee at plee (at) globalwireonline (dot) org.
