This is part of our year-long celebration of Global Wire Associates’ 10th Anniversary.
In 2012 Global Wire Associates launched the Recharge E-waste campaign, which was a year-long look at the environmental and health dangers electronic waste poses to the world. A year later we published the companion e-book Recharge E-waste: Ideas For Reducing Electronic Waste And Greening The Tech World. The book proved to be popular with our core audience and clients.
“Many of the clients said that they liked the fact that we compiled all the posts into an easily digestible e-book,” said GWA editorial director Philip Lee. “We also worked with our R&D team to interview electronics users worldwide on their e-waste habits. From those interviews we generated statistics for the e-book that gave the topic more perspective.”
It was also around this time we were thinking about automating our training curriculum for general audiences. This is where the idea for Global Wire Books came from in February 2013. Our in-house digital imprint was created to support our mission of presenting topics related to technology and social innovation through interactive, accessible digital publications.
So far we have published seven e-books, with two more scheduled to come out this year. The “Short Guide” series combine popular subjects we teach in both our online and in-person classes. Our signature publication, the annual State of International Communications report, utilizes the strength of the research and development team to assess the views of 600 survey participants from around the world on trends in communications, information technology and social innovation. Every September the report is distributed to partner organizations in attendance at United Nations Week in New York City.
“Our reports really give a snapshot into the evolution of communications, from printed newspapers, snail mail and radio to the email, social media and texting,” said Global Wire Associates founder and managing director Talia Whyte. The way we communicate with each other has a huge impact on how connected the human race is socially, politically and economically. We hope all of our publications will continue in the tradition of reporting this evolution.”
As for the future, Global Wire Books will be expanding its offerings in the near future to reach even wider audiences. This may include the introduction of audiobooks into our collection. We are also in the process of translating our e-books into different languages beside English. Stay tuned!
