A few months ago we wrote a blog post about how satellites are being used to address natural disaster relief by taking pictures from space. Engineers from the University of Michigan are testing out drone technology to take photos and videos with a high level of overlap to predict potential geological danger areas. Researchers will then take those images and recreate these areas using 3D rendering. They believe that they can cut a lot of the time and uncertainty associated with measuring disasters out of the equation and more effectively make measurements that influence the design of infrastructure.
